Wrestling: North Harford comes back to beat CMW

North Harford posted a dual meet victory in wrestling Wednesday evening, beating C. Milton Wright in its own gym. The Hawks won eight bouts en route to the 45-33 win.

The match didn't start off all that well for the Hawks, who lost the first two bouts. CMW's Doug Their won 10-3 over Mike Teller at 170 pounds and Mickey Glendon followed with a 2:24 pin of Tyler Mason at 182.

Zac Edwards put the Hawks on the scoreboard at 195, pinning Donte Smith. Hawks heavyweight Dustin Beall also won by fall at 285 over John Arminger, but a bout earlier it was Mustang Ty Rochester who pinned Andrew Miller at 220 pounds.

Turning over the lineup to the lightweights, the two teams split the first four weight classes. North Harford won the first two. Trevor Smith pinned Mike Ritz in just :52 at 106, and Jordan Avig edged Jake DiMattia 7-4 at 113.

CMW countered with wins in the next two. Mike Zito won at 120, pinning Greg Fiackos in 2:49, and Elliott Creamer followed suit at 126, pinning Ty Sadowski in 2:45.

The Hawks the put away the match with four straight wins — three pins and a forfeit. Alex O'Shaughnessy started the run at 132, decking Spencer Hellman in 1:32. Logan Smith was equally impressive at 138, pinning Gary Guzzo in 1:30, while Kevin Griffin needed three periods to record a fall at 145. Griffin pinned Brian Jensen in 5:29.

North Harford's Ethan Andrews accepted the meet's only forfeit at 152. The match closed out with CMW's Phillip Flint pinning Jake Demond in 1:45 at 160.

Cobras beat Bo Manor

Harford Tech won a dual meet Wednesday at Bo Manor, 49-20. The Cobras won 10 of 14 weight classes, highlighted by four pins, by Tyler Granese, 120; Bret Blevins, 126; Tyler Butler, 145; and Tim Torre, 160.

Nathan Cook posted a 10-0 major decision at 170, while Will Hughes, 285; Nate Haskell, 113; and Skyler Leach, 152, each won decisions.

Amari Jones, 182, and Dillon Brush, 195, received forfeits.

Bobcats roll over Indians

Bel Air rolled up nine wins, including six straight to start the meet, in a 49-23 win at North East on Wednesday night.

The Bobcats won five bouts by fall and two more by forfeit to account for 42 of the 49 points. Jeff Taylor added a 9-0 major decision at 132 and the Bobcats won another bout by decision.

Patriots upend Curley

John Carroll overcame a early 21-0 deficit Wednesday to defeat host Archbishop Curley, 35-32.

The Patriots lost the first four bouts, starting at 182, but got more than half the points back when Zach Dwyer and Chad Skokowski won forfeits at 106 and 113, respectively.

The Patriots also dropped the 120 bout but followed with five straight wins to go ahead. Steven Jernigan, 126, and George Weber, 145, each posted major decision victories, while Scot Strappelli, 132, and Christian Almony, 152, each recorded first period falls.

Christian Scott eked out an important 9-8 decision at 138.

Just as important were the two Patriot losses that ended the meet. Freshman Hunter Ritter, 160, and senior Zach Donato, 170, both lost close decisions, which allowed Curley just six points and gave the Patriots the three-point meet win.

Tigers drop Huskies

Patterson Mill lost at home Wednesday night to Rising Sun, 45-24. The Huskies won six of the 14 bouts.

Jason Noss was the lone Husky to win by fall, doing so at 132. Jake Nikkila, 126; Thomas Trzeciak, 138; Nick Roney, 152; and Tyler Mackechnie, 182, all won by decisions and Corey Meyers won a forfeit at 220.

Other scores

In two other meets, Perryville crushed host Edgewood, 70-10, while Aberdeen and visiting Havre de Grace battled to a 39-39 tie. The Eagles were declared winners on the tie-breaker for scoring the meet's first points.
