Teacher under investigation after allegedly biting student

A teacher at Fountain Green Elementary School was disciplined by Harford County Public Schools after allegedly biting a 10-year-old student on the forearm.

A parent told the Harford County Sheriff's Office June 13 that the child's teacher had bitten the child on the forearm June 10, according to Monica Worrell, public information specialist with the sheriff's office.

The parent had already reported the incident to the school.

Because the incident involved a person in custody of a child, the Harford County Child Advocacy Center is investigating the case, Worrell said.

The school system is aware of the reported incident and took appropriate disciplinary action, according to Teri Kranefeld, manager of communication for the school system.

Kranefeld wrote in an e-mail that "the teacher is on paid administrative leave pending the investigation."

The teacher was not in the school building for the last week of school, according to Kranefeld.

No charges have been filed in the case, and neither police nor the school system had released the name of the teacher as of Tuesday.
