Alternative Education student charged with weapon possession

A 17-year-old boy is charged after he allegedly brought a knife to the Alternative Education at the Center for Educational Opportunity building in Aberdeen.

The teenager is a student at the Aberdeen school, according to a police report, and is charged with possession of a deadly weapon in connection with an incident Jan. 12. Harford deputies were called to the school for a report of a student with a knife.

Another student reported the knife on Jan. 11, but when the assistant principal and counselor at the school searched the boy, the knife was not found, according to the report. Prior to searching him, both adults had left the boy and it is suspected he allegedly hid the knife under a rug.

The next morning, Jan. 12, the assistant principal found the knife, according to the police report, and placed it on her desk before leaving the office. Staff members later saw the boy in her office; he said he was looking for her but allegedly took the knife off the desk and put it on a filing cabinet.

Other students also confirmed he had allegedly hidden the knife under the rug.

The boy was referred to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
