Strangers approached students in Harford County in two separate incidents, both of which were reported to police.
The first incident was reported Friday, Dec. 9, but occurred the previous day, Thursday, Dec. 8, around 3:25 p.m., when a man in a red truck called out to a boy getting off a school bus in the 1100 block of Shucks Road in Campus Hills, Harford County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Monica Worrell said Tuesday.
The boy ran home, Worrell said, adding: "There doesn't appear to be anything suspicious at this time."
The second incident occurred around 7 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, in the 700 block of Estates Court, just down the street from Fountain Green Elementary School, where a 16-year-old girl was walking to school. A man pulled up to her and asked if she wanted a ride, according to Worrell, who said police were called and investigated, but they were unable to find any suspects in the area that matched the girl's description.
The sheriff's office does not believe the incidents are related, Worrell said.
There have been several reports of possible attempted abductions in Harford County this year that the sheriff's office found credible enough to investigate further, including one in November when a stranger asked a 14-year-old girl walking in Joppatowne to approach his car, but instead she ran away to her home. Her grandmother reported the incident to the sheriff's office.
In October, a 14-year-old boy was threatened with harm at a school bus stop in Abingdon by a man driving a black van, after the boy refused to get into the van. The boy ran home safely. The sheriff's office received several calls regarding the van after it issued a public advisory about the incident; however, no suspect was ever identified.
