Three fires hit Harford County during the passing thunderstorm Thursday morning, including one that killed a Forest Hill resident.
An unidentified victim died after fire struck a home at Montford and Creston drives in the Forest Hill area at about 9:50 a.m., according to a release from the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.
The victim's identity had not been released as of late Thursday afternoon.
Units from the Fallston Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Company found a two-story wood frame home on fire. Volunteer firefighters from Harford, Baltimore and York counties responded to the one-alarm fire.
The fire was under control within about 30 minutes.
One volunteer firefighter was also taken to a hospital by ambulance for a non-life-threatening respiratory ailment, according to the release.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
Two more fires hit Edgewood and Joppatowne at about the same time.
Units were dispatched to the 500 block of Silverside Road in Edgewood at about 9:30 a.m. for a basement fire in progress, Dave Williams, spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association, said.
It was controlled quickly as a first-alarm fire.
While the Creston Drive fire was in progress, another dwelling fire was reported in the 500 block of Sugar Hill Road in Joppatowne
Crews were dispatched at about 10:05 a.m. to a single-family home, and controlled and extinguished by first-alarm units, which was the Joppa-Magnolia volunteers.
No injuries occurred at either of those fires, Williams said.
The storm Thursday morning included numerous lightning strikes in Harford, although none have been identified as the cause of the fires.
During the storm, "there were lots of calls, and some may have been reported as dwelling fires," Williams said.
