Maryland Sting back in action, starts with win

The 2011 Maryland Sting football team will be playing its home games at "The Bowl" within the Fallston Rec Complex, on Fallston Road. The Sting competes in the MAFL (Mid Atlantic Football League, a minor league comprised of semi-pro players).

Recently, the team's coaches, players and staff hosted their second annual Youth Skills Camp on July 16 and 17 at The Bowl. The camp enabled area youth to interact with coaches and players while learning the finer points of the game and becoming fundamentally sound.

During the past three seasons the core group of coaches and players have compiled a record of 28-9. The 2011 season kicked off in Fallston against the Germantown Gladiators on Saturday and the Sting played hard and came away victorious, winning 30-6.

The Maryland Sting is appreciative of its many sponsors. The team currently practices at Techalloy Field in Dundalk, on the business grounds of Techalloy Welding Products. Thanks to the friends from Fallston Rec and the community, the Maryland Sting will be playing its home football games at The Bowl. The Maryland Sting encourages the public's attendance. The schedule and team information can be located on the website at http://www.mdsting.org. Upcoming home games will be played on Aug. 13 and 20 and Sept. 10 and 17, starting at 7 p.m.

"Our goal is to provide athletes a chance to continue playing football at a competitive level after high school and college. We also strive to be a positive force in the community, displaying fellowship and fair play," head coach Bryan Milburn said.
