Kenneth Young is Harford's Youth of the Year

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County held its 22nd annual Steak & Burger Dinner at the New Life Center at Mountain Christian Church in Joppa Thursday evening.

The evening was a celebration of the many accomplishments of the youth at the Harford County Clubs in Aberdeen, Bel Air, Edgewood and Havre de Grace.

Guests dined with the children, teenagers and families that have benefited from the Clubs' programs and listened to a keynote speech delivered by Baltimore Ravens Linebacker Jameel McClain.

Kenneth Young of the Edgewood unit was named 2012 Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County Youth of the Year, the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive.

The title recognizes Kenneth's outstanding contributions to his family, school, community, and Boys & Girls Club, as well as overcoming personal challenges and obstacles. Kenneth received a $1,000 scholarship from the organization.

The other finalists for youth of the year were Kenneth Young, Simone Foster, Clara Grimmett and Tatyana Sawyer.

Pastor Ben Cachiaras, of Mountain Christian Church served as the master of ceremonies.

McClain has played four seasons for the Ravens, and has been an active member of his community. He has a story that takes him from being homelessness to being an NFL player.

This year's event was presented by Macy's Mid-Atlantic.
