Marge Rosasco still has a lot of running left in her 63-year-old legs.
The long-time road-racer from Joppa made this apparent when she won the women's race of the Heather L. Hurd 5K at Harford Community College Saturday. She finished in 23:42, about 33 seconds ahead of runner-up Taylor Nantz, 17, a student at Notre Dame Prep.
The race didn't present the tough challenge Rosasco was accustomed to 30 years ago, when she recorded national-class performances like 56:39 for 10 miles. Her standards for good performances have changed with age, and 5K times below 24 minutes are now pleasing to her. Last month, she ran a 22:36, the best time in the mid-Atlantic region for the 60-64 age group.
Behind her Saturday, Nancy Hill, of Havre de Grace, finished third in 24:25; Lori Olszewski, of Forest Hill, fourth in 24:36; and Julian Belsan, of Aberdeen, fifth in 24:36.
Tom Lovett, 25, a former Bel Air High School cross-country runner, won the men's race, leading 96 others to the finish line in 19:35.
In the men's top five were Kevin Frick, of Baltimore, 20:29; Eric Jagde, of Bel Air, 21:03; Steven Tatro, of Nottingham, 21:06; and William Gray, of Bel Air, 21:10.
Age group winners were Brett Sperl and Daphne Karas, under-14; Brandon Gray and Dale Conrad, 14-18; Kevin Lackland and Julia Belson, 19-29; William Gray and Tina Hornung, 30-39; Steven Tatro and Lori Olszewski, 40-49; John Jagde and Lynne French, 50-59; and Brad Roberts, over-60.
