Shawn Loper had it easy, and Nelly Budrow, not so easy in winning the third annual Race to Feed the Hungry 5K Saturday in Fallston.
Loper held a 41-second lead over the men's field when he crossed the finish line ahead of 150 other runners, timed in 17:20. Budrow ran 21:35 to win the women's race by a margin of just 5 seconds over last year's winner, Lauren Greenberg.
The next three women finished within 57 seconds of Budrow. Kaitlin Ames ran 22:00; Julia Bacso, 22:13; and Lindsay Ames, 22:32. Others among the top 10 women were Victoria Peterson, 23:09; Erin Wood, 23:31; Nikki Zander, 23:41; Jessica Crump, 24:14; and Kay Vinton, 24:46.
Organized by the Ames United Methodist Church of Bel Air to benefit the Harford Food Bank, the event drew 300 entries, about 100 more than last year. About half the entrants were walkers.
Charles Powell II finished second in the men's race in 18:01. Third place went to another masters runner, Jerry Henderson, in 18:05. Others in the men's top 10 were Paul Kuwik, 19:28; Peter Smith, 19:57; Trent Seawell, 20:00; Jeff Izzo, 20:06; Peter Moore, 20:21; Joe Dragunas, 20:28; and J. Maerten, 20:29.
Belford Second in 10 Miler
Two area runners finished in the top 10 in a field of 4,206 Saturday in the Baltimore 10 Miler.
Luke Belford was second in 57:11 and Jesse Jaeger, sixth in 59:01. They trailed winner Ryan Carroll (56:04) to the finish line. Megan DiGregorio won the women's race in 1:05:15.
Mike Feinberg ran 1:03:39 to win the 45-49 age group, and Keith Burgess, 1:11:10 to win 55-59. Jeff Burger was second in 35-39 in 1:05:03, and John Escarsega, third in 45-49 in 1:07:28.
Several other Harford runners finished among the top 10 in their respective age groups. Rob Bartholomew was fourth in 45-49 in 1:09:20; Luke Brandonisio, fourth, 50-54 in 1:09:37; Esther Buchser, fourth, over-60 in 1:37:40; Sergio Flores, fifth, 25-29 in 1:04:19; Linda Holloway, sixth, 60-64 in 1:42:27; Sarah Zephir-Thomason, seventh, 35-39 in 1:18:52; Nicole Ricci, seventh, under-20 in 1:25:19.
Also, Janet McAdorey was seventh in 50-54, 1:28:41; Jeff Damiano, eighth, 30-34, in 1:03:22; Anna Wasielewski, eighth, 20-24 in 1:22:10; Steve Elliott, eighth, 50-54 in 1:12:19; Sarah Westervelt, eighth, 1:17:30 in 30-34; Karl Petersen, ninth, 55-59 in 1:23:12; and Meghan McAdorey, tenth, 1:22:37 in 20-24.
McAdoreys 3rd in Father-Daughter Race
Hugh McAdorey and Meghan McAdorey of Bel Air placed third in the father-daughter competition in the GBMC Father's Day 5K in Hunt Valley Sunday.
Hugh ran 21:33, and Meghan, 26:14 for a third-best combined time of 47:47. They were among 536 finishers in the annual race won by Dave Berdan of Owings Mills, 15:34, and Sherry Stick of Eldersburg, 19:10.
Marge Rosasco and daughter-in-law, Carole Rosasco, won their age groups. Marge ran 25:38 to lead 60-69. Carole led 50-54 in 23:47. Mark Rosasco took third in men's 50-54 in 21:04.
Barbara Stachowiak of Kingsville won the 45-49 age group in 24:48. Kay Vinton of Kingsville placed second behind her in 25:20. Melissa Vinton, 19, was third in 18-24 in 23:26.
