One killed, another to shock trauma following three-car accident in Joppa

An 18-year-old Forest Hill girl was killed in a three-car accident Tuesday afternoon in Joppa.

Hannah Mackensie Kriss, of the 100 block of Theodora Court, crossed the center line on Route 152 and hit two other cars, one of which became engulfed in flames, according to Maryland State Police.

Around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, Kriss was heading north on Route 152 before Old Joppa Road in a 1999 Saturn when, for reasons police have not been able to determine, crossed the center line and sideswiped a 2011 Toyota Avalon, driven by Sandy Lee Rohe, 44, of the 2500 block of Beverly Drive in Joppa, according to a state police press release.

The Saturn continued north on the wrong side of the road and hit head-on a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Dereke Michael Hoch, 28, of the 900 block of Palm Tree Circle in Glen Burnie. Michael Craig Burke, 34, of the 7700 block of Woodlawn Avenue in Pasadena, was in the front seat.

The Suburban caught fire and became engulfed, but Hoch and Burke were able to escape before emergency personnel arrived.

Kriss was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hoch was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore while passenger, Burke, was taken to Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore; neither had life-threatening injuries, according to the release.

Rohe was not injured.

Troopers were investigating the crash, which closed Route 152 for several hours afterward.
