Redistricting hearing at HCC to be rescheduled

The Maryland Department of Planning expects to reschedule a public hearing on the state redistricting process at Harford Community College after it, along with most other events last weekend, were canceled forHurricane Irene.

The hearing will hopefully be scheduled within a couple of days, Andy Ratner, spokesman for the planning department, said Tuesday.

It was originally set for Saturday at the Amoss Center, but Harford County Public Schools, which manages the center, canceled all activities for Saturday, according to a press release from the planning department.

The hearing would give residents and other community members a chance to weigh in on the process of redrawing the state legislative districts in time for the 2012 elections.

A number of local elected officials were expected to be there.

Gov.Martin O'Malley's redistricting advisory committee is holding 12 public hearings across the state.
