Harford unemployment holds steady for August

Harford County's unemployment rate held steady in August, falling just slightly to 7.3 percent and staying roughly even with the statewide rate.

That means there were 9,711 people unemployed in August.

The state's rate stayed at 7.4 percent for that month.

The average for the Baltimore-Towson area as a whole was 7.9 percent, with some jurisdictions, like Cecil County at 9.3 percent, much higher.

Harford's statistics keep the county on pace for another average unemployment rate above 7 percent for the year.

Last year, the county finished with a 7.5 percent average rate, and the year before was 7.3 percent.
