The number of unemployed Harford County residents continued rising in July, making it slightly higher than the statewide average.
The county's unemployment rate was 7.5 percent in July, up from 7.3 in June.
That means 10,068 residents lacked jobs, more than the 9,673 jobless in June.
The trend seems to be ongoing, despite the promises of BRAC to lure more defense-based jobs to the area. BRAC formally finished this month.
Harford's statistics keep the county on pace for another average unemployment rate above 7 percent for the year.
Last year, the county finished with a 7.5 percent average rate, and the year before was 7.3 percent.
The number is consistent with other counties. The average unemployment rate for the Baltimore metropolitan statistical area was 8 percent in July.
The statewide average for July and August, however, stayed consistent at 7.4 percent. (County-based numbers for August have not been released yet.)
Only Baltimore County's rate held steady at 7.9 percent from June. Cecil's rate rose to 9.7 percent, Baltimore City's rose to 11.2 percent, Howard's rose slightly to 5.7 percent and Carroll's rose to 6.7 percent.
