Man accused of stealing alcohol from Aberdeen 7-Eleven charged

An Aberdeen man was charged with robbery after allegedly stealing alcohol from an Aberdeen convenience store.

Around 1 a.m. July 1, a man, later identified as 47-year-old Bryant Wyche, walked into the 7-Eleven in the 600 block of South Philadelphia Boulevard, according to charging documents.

The store manager told police he watched Wyche walk to the back of the store, take alcohol out of the fridge and put it under his shirt, according to charging documents.

When Wyche started walking toward the door, the manager asked if Wyche planned to pay for the alcohol.

Wyche allegedly told the manager he had the alcohol before he entered the store, so the manager asked if he could pat Wyche down to see if he had anything on him, according to charging documents.

As the manager walked toward Wyche, Wyche allegedly said, "I might have also have a gun," according to charging documents.

Wyche then allegedly ran out of the store with the alcohol and ran up Parke Street toward Law Street, according to charging documents.

Aberdeen police officers saw Wyche, who matched the robber's description, walking in the area and stopped him for questioning, according to charging documents.

Wyche had two bottles of alcohol with him at the time.

Wyche first said he was coming from an aunt's house, then said he was coming from a funeral, according to charging documents.

Unprompted, Wyche then stated, "I did not steal anything," according to charging documents.

The officer asked who said Wyche had stolen something and Wyche answered, "I don't know, some guy," according to charging documents. Wyche said he had the alcohol with him and had been carrying it around for about 20 minutes.

When the officer pointed out that the bottles were ice cold, Wyche said he may have been walking for 10 minutes, according to charging documents.

Because the bottles of alcohol were the same kind that had been stolen from the 7-Eleven, officers took Wyche to the store. The manager identified Wyche as the man who allegedly stole alcohol.

Wyche, of the 400 block of Holly Drive, was charged with a robbery. He was released later that day after posting $10,000 bail.
