Aberdeen man charged with second-degree rape

An Aberdeen man was charged Saturday with second-degree rape.

Alexander Hines, 32, of the first block of North Philadelphia Boulevard, has been charged with second-degree rape and second-degree assault in connection with an incident on Dec. 1.

On that morning, according to charging documents, Hines entered an assisted living house in Aberdeen and allegedly raped a homeless woman staying there. In the charging documents, the woman, age 71, said she did not know if Hines had a weapon.

She also later identified him as "Alex," a man she recognized from his frequent stops at the house, according to charging documents.

Hines appeared before Harford County District Court Judge Victor Butanis in a bail review hearing in Bel Air on Monday, where public defender Timothy Bar pointed out that Hines has one child and receives Social Security income.

Bar requested a reduction in bail, but Assistant State's Attorney Elizabeth Bowen asked for bail to remain as set.

Butanis opted to leave bail as set at $250,000 and as of Wednesday evening, Hines was still being held at the Harford County Detention Center.
