I am Dave Glenn and I am really excited for the opportunity to run for the Havre de Grace City Council in the city I am so proud to call my home.
Let me first introduce you to the candidate. I have been a resident of Havre de Grace since 1967. I have been happily married to the former Terri Culley for the last 29 years. I have two children: Kellie, a trauma nurse at Christiana Hospital and Shawn, who is serving his country in the U.S. Air Force. I am a proud graduate of Havre de Grace High School (class of 1975); I received my bachelor's degree from Towson University and my master's degree from Central Michigan University. I am entrenched in this community, as evidenced by the fact that I belong to the following civic organizations: Susquehanna Masonic Lodge 130; Sons of the American Legion, Post 47; BPOE 1564; and the Havre de Grace United Methodist Church. In addition, my volunteer efforts include the following: Past President of the Meadowvale PTA where I was instrumental in their renovation efforts; James Harris Field Committee where we now have an athletic field we can all be proud of; I have coached Little League baseball for the last 29+ years; I established the Ben Keyes Scholarship; and I am active in the Children's Miracle Network. As part of my volunteer efforts, my family was selected as Harford County's Volunteer Family of the Year (2000) and I was also selected to the Havre de Grace Little League Hall of Fame (2004).
I was told that the job of serving on the City Council would not be easy. But that doesn't deter me. Keep in mind, I have earned scouting's highest honor given I am an Eagle Scout; I earned my master's degree while working full-time at APG; and I have been employed with the federal government for the last 32+ years working the tough issues such as BRAC and downsizing initiatives.
My areas of interest include the following: a new or vastly improved Havre de Grace High School (our children need the opportunity for educational success); a magnet program for the Havre de Grace community (we currently have none); improved street and traffic safety to protect our most valuable resource (our residents of this great city); continued focus on youth programs; resolution of the current city water and sewage issue; promote economic and business growth in the downtown district; and continue to capitalize on our past tourism success stories.
Why should you vote for Dave Glenn?
I have no hidden agenda and am running because I love this community. I want to join the team because I feel I have a lot to offer. More importantly, I recognize up front that if elected, it is not my seat (the seat belongs to the citizens). It has to be a team effort. I do not profess to have all the answers, therefore I will solicit input, listen, and when it comes to making a decision, vote to do the right things for all the right reasons. I have always said that Havre de Grace was Maryland's best kept secret. I no longer feel that way. Because of our Chamber of Commerce, Main Street, our Tourism Office, the Arts Commission, the Fourth of July Committee, and the Seafood Festival, we have become the tourism stop of Choice and need to continue to build upon it. My goal can be summed up in six short words: "I want to make a difference." A vote for Dave Glenn on May 8 will give me the opportunity to make that difference. Hope to see you at the polls on Election Day.
