Four Harford County fire companies responded to an apartment complex in Aberdeen Friday morning to battle a fire that left two units damaged.
Firefighters from Aberdeen Fire Department, Level Volunteer Fire Company, Susquehanna Hose Company of Havre de Grace and Aberdeen Proving Ground Fire Department responded to the apartment complex on Plaza Court around 10 a.m., according to Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association spokesperson Rich Gardiner.
Prior to the arrival of fire equipment, smoke was reported throughout six apartments
Maintenance workers at the complex were able to put out the fire using nine fire extinguishers on the property, Gardiner said.
A preliminary investigation found the fire, that started in a bedroom, was contained to one apartment, but two units were vacated because of the fire and smoke damage, Gardiner said.
No injuries were reported.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal said about 40 firefighters responded and that the fire started in a first floor unit. The units had working smoke detectors.
Damage to the structure is estimated at $10,000 and damage to contents at $5,000, according to a notice of investigation the fire marshal's office released Friday afternoon.
The preliminary cause of the fire is listed as accidental from "some kind of electrical malfunction involving electrical cords, heater and/or Glade air freshener."
