Fallston family gears up for Ravens playoffs

If you had any doubt which NFL football team Laura Finney will be rooting for during Sunday's playoff games, just look at her lawn.

The Fallston mom, a loyal Ravens fan since high school, spray-painted a large Ravens face on her lawn.

If that wasn't enough, the family also has a sign by the driveway at its home that reads "Ravens town," a purchase from the Bel Air Festival for the Arts. The Bel Air Downtown Alliance is also hosting a Ravens rally at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Ravens gear is cropping up all over Harford County as Sunday's playoff game nears. Windows in the county government building shout "Go Ravens" in purple lights, cars are sporting flags whipping in the wind and more and more people are showing their "Purple Pride" gear.

While one reason for doing so is because Finney, 27, wants to show her purple pride, the other is one who many Ravens fans can relate to: her next-door neighbors are Steelers fans.

"I wanted to beat them to the punch," Finney joked. Last year, she explained, the neighbors from Pittsburgh had done something similar to their lawn and she had to look at the Steelers logo every day.

This year, however, is even sweeter for Finney and her family — the Steelers lost to the Denver Broncos in overtime during Sunday's wild card game.

The family watched the delightful defeat at home and got caught up in the excitement. Even her 2-year-old son, Jordan, was excited, running around the room exclaiming that he got a touchdown, Finney said.

On Monday, she wore purple to celebrate Pittsburgh's loss.

When Finney and her husband, Christopher, aren't watching the game at home, the two take turns accompanying her father-in-law, who has season tickets, to Ravens home games.

"It's awesome," Finney said of attending Ravens games. The seats, she described, are five rows off the end zone.

This weekend, when the boys in purple and black go against the Houston Texans Sunday in the divisional playoff game, Finney and her husband will watch the game together with friends at Looney's Pub in Bel Air.

Most likely, the two will be wearing their Ravens jerseys — Finney wears Ray Rice's 27 and her husband wears Ray Lewis' 52. Little Jordan also boasts a Rice jersey and, according to his mother, can do the running back's touchdown dance moves.

"You [have to] teach 'em young," she laughed.

As far as Finney's predictions for the Ravens-Texans game this weekend, she thinks her favorite team will win and head to New England the following weekend for a game against the Patriots.

She hopes, though, that "the Broncos [will] have another miracle in them." If the Ravens beat Houston and Denver wins at New England, the following week's AFC Championship Game would be in Baltimore.

Ravens Rally Friday

In anticipation of Sunday's big game, the Bel Air Downtown Alliance is throwing a Ravens Rally at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Armory Park at 37 N. Main St.

The event, hosted by Tyler Daniel from WXCY 103.7, will have live music from Head Rush, free popcorn and hot cocoa, Ravens gear and prizes for the "best dressed Ravens fans," according to a press release announcing the rally.

The event is free. There is no rain date.

The alliance will also hold its second annual Super Bowl Rally Feb. 3.
