Trick-or-Treat football style leads to important final week of high school play

Well another Halloween has passed, but not without a little extra fun around my house as the trick-or-treaters come and go, especially when a Ravens-Steelers game is about to be played.

My neighbor, a rabid Ravens fan, steps out with purple this and purple that, trying to combat my black, gold and white leather jacket that gets positive remarks each and every time I wear it. Even my neighbor thinks so.

Many who stroll up and down our street hit his house before they do mine, which means he usually sends them on toward me with a message. Usually something like Ravens Rule or Ravens Rock. I never know, but it's Ravens something.

There was one little Spiderman who was coaxed into saying Wavens Wule. I asked what is Wavens Wule and he restated, "I said Wravens Wrule." It was a cute moment, purely innocent.

There were others who were sent who weren't so cute, but with the same message.

Well, while most seem to move from his house to mine, there are those that make the trip the opposite way. That's where I get my chance to poke a little fun.

We all remember the Addams Family don't we? Well, Uncle Fester lives next door. Seriously, I think he does or at least a relative. So, I tell the older people, moms, dads, uncles and aunts, make sure you see Uncle Fester next door. It usually draws a chuckle and its all in good, clean humor.

The next few days leading up to this annual rivalry will be fun as I make my way around. I don't have Steelers stuff on every day, but when I do, I have fun.

Speaking of fun. Friday marks the final night of the high school football regular season for all of our teams in the county and the UCBAC.

As I'm writing this, the MPSSAA point standings for football playoffs had not been updated, due to some make-up games being played Monday.

None of our teams fell into that make-up mess from Saturday's storm, but because of it, none of our teams knew exactly where they stood after last week's games.

Here's what we did know and what I suspect heading into this week's games. Fallston is a solid one or two seed in Class 2A East after its big win over North Harford. The Hawks, despite the loss, are still a likely one or two seed in 3A North.

Aberdeen has been clinging to the fourth and final seed in 3A North as has Patterson Mill in 2A East. I believe both will be in good shape heading into the final week, but Aberdeen's postseason may will rely on the outcome of the Eagles game at Fallston.

Havre de Grace has been as high as the two seed in 1A East, but after last week's loss, likely sits fourth. The good news for Warriors fans is, win or lose this week at unbeaten Overlea, Havre de Grace will probably stay in the fourth seed and make a short trip to Perryville in week 11.

All the points will be finalized Sunday and pairings scheduled. Get out and watch as long as they are playing. Good luck to all.
