A wet Terrible Towel on the football season start

Well, it's kind of hard to write a sports column about local sports when games played are outweighed by those that are not played.

When a whole slate of Friday football games get the nix and then are rescheduled for Monday, life gets a bit more troubling. That said though, coaches that I needed info from Monday night for our online recaps were right on the money. This week it was Ken Brinkman, Johnny Watson and Johnny Brooks. The jury is still out on this week's action.

I've also gotten the results from other coaches in other sports that I'm covering and that's a big help.

A few games from previous postponements were played Monday as well. It's a bit unusual to have this number of scheduled events hampered this time of year. There's been a round of football games postponed in year's past and yes, games have been made up on Monday.

But this year has started off a bit too strong. The earthquake before school even started, led to Hurricane Irene, which was followed by Tropical Storm Lee. My yard got plenty of water, which I'm extremely happy about, but we did discover a leak. Fun, fun.

So, while we were having our troubles with potential flooding and very soggy field conditions, those that make up the NFL seemed to have no trouble.

The game that grabs the attention of most in Harford County is of course the Ravens-Steelers game that was a plain old butt whipping.

It's never fun when your rooting interest loses, but when they get basically embarrassed? Not good.

I'm not one to make excuses and won't in this latest meeting between the two. The Ravens looked really good in almost everything they did and the Steelers did not.

Most Ravens fans that I've come across are delighted, overjoyed and in some cases, just crazy.

The win was impressive and shocking at the same time. Congrats to all my Ravens fans friends. Enjoy this week. We'll see what happens in November.

Of course this first weekend of NFL action, brings along the oodles of fantasy games and players all over this land. It's fun and frustrating all at the same time.

My seasons (three in all) didn't get off to the starts that I had hoped for, but it's week one of 16 or 17 depending on which league.

In the league that counts the most, I have quarterback issues. Trying to resolve them is frustrating and potentially costly. I'm not sure where the fun is in that.

Like I said, there's 16 or 17 weeks in the season, so I'm not throwing in the Terrible Towel just yet. Give it a week or two and things might change.

I, however, am closing in on the Aegis Baseball League title. How sweet it is.
