Huskies kick off 2011 campaign with 21-14 home victory

The Patterson Mill boys started their 2011 football campaign in dramatic fashion Friday night, as quarterback Ryan Jacobs tossed a game-winning touchdown pass to receiver Mike Reed in the waning seconds of the fourth quarter to seal a 21-14 victory over Chesapeake-Baltimore County for the host-team Huskies.

The game's big play came with eight seconds left in regulation and the score tied 14-14, while the Huskies were perched on the Chesapeake-B.C. 24-yard line. Jacobs, who was filling in for Patterson Mill starter Luke DePasquale, fired a bullet to Reed in the end zone, putting the Huskies ahead.

DePasquale, who threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Reed that ended Patterson Mill's first possession, was knocked out of the game in the opening quarter with a leg injury. There has been no word from the Husky camp as to whether its starting quarterback will be back in action next week, or if Jacobs will be at the helm again.

Deonte Alston was Patterson Mill's leading rusher, picking up 100 yards on 16 carries in the victory.

Mike Samra ran the ball 13 times for 49 yards, and scored Patterson Mill's lone rushing touchdown.

Reed caught three passes on the night, two of which were touchdowns receptions, and had 29 receiving yards in all.

Tyler Oppel led the Husky defense, picking up 16 tackles. Accounting for three Chesapeake-B.C. turnovers all on his own was Patterson Mill defensive back Justin Palmer, who picked off three passes.

In their week-two match up on Friday night, the Huskies host the C. Milton Wright Mustangs at 7 p.m.
