A man died Monday evening after being struck by a car in Edgewood, Maryland State Police said.
Maryland State troopers responded to Route 755 (Edgewood Road) south of Hanson Road on Monday at approximately 6:20 p.m. Monday for a single vehicle and pedestrian accident, according to a news release.
The investigation showed that Ramiro Martinez Mejia stepped off the curb and into the path of a 2012 Ford Escape, driven by Joseph Michael Ganter, of Edgewood, according to the release.
The Ford was traveling north on Edgewood Road when Mr. Mejia stepped off the curb and was struck by the car in the travel portion of the road, according to the release. There isn't a crosswalk at that location, but there is a controlled intersection nearby, according to the release.
Mr. Mejia was transported by ambulance to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Collision reconstructionists with Maryland State Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
There have been eight highway-related deaths in Harford County this year, including five since Saturday and seven since Feb. 7.
