Pedestrian seriously injured in early morning crash

An Edgewood woman was hospitalized last Friday after she was hit by a car in Joppatowne.

Around 2 a.m., Dwayne Dickerson Jr. was driving a 1997 Lexus ES300 east on Route 40 east of Joppa Road, according to a release from Maryland State Police with the Bel Air Barrack.

At the same time, Krystal Lin Friel, 25, of Edgewood, was walking across Route 40.

The Lexus passed through the intersection of Route 40 and Joppa Road, but was unable to stop in time to avoid Friel because of wet weather conditions and low visibility, according to the release.

Friel sustained serious injuries in the collision and was taken by medevac helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where she was in critical condition later that day. Friel was released from shock trauma Wednesday.

Dickerson was not injured in the crash and the road was closed for about two hours as troopers investigated at the scene.

State police will consult the Harford County State's Attorney's Office to determine if charges should be filed.
