It's time to think about that special gift for your hunter or fisherman

Once again it is time to think of a gift for the hunter or fishermen on your Christmas list. As stated so many times, unless you know what he or she wants the best bet is a gift certificate from his or her favorite sporting goods store.

By the time this makes the paper it will only be one day to opening of deer season. You folks who have moved to the country, you may hear gun shots in the woods near your home. There is no problem — it is hunting season and that it comes with each fall.

If this weather stays nice I hope to get in a little fishing. All local waters should be good at present. My choice would be to try for some late trout in Deer Creek.

Trying a local pond for bass or bluegills is also a good idea.

The Susquehanna in the fall will provide some great walleye fishing as well as some big catfish. Bass fishing should be good both above and below Conowingo Dam.

When fishing above the dam keep an eye on the wind as this area can become nasty in a hurry. A few years ago we were caught on the lake by a sudden wind. We were lucky to get the boat into a cove. The waves were 3 to 4 feet high.

I hope everyone enjoyed a great Thanksgiving Day. I also hope that we gave thanks for the great hunting and fishing this area has to offer. It would be nice if the Department of Natural Resources would do something about the condition of the Susquehanna and Bay. It seems like every time there is money set aside we get another study of the problem but no answers.
