The fire was contained within 10 minutes and limited to the living room, according to Gardiner. There was one occupant home at the time, who was evaluated by EMS responders and deemed to have no serious injuries.

Firefighters from companies in Bel Air and Fallston were on scene for the fire, with Abingdon Fire Company to fill in as needed, Gardiner said. Thirty firefighters responded, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. There were no injuries to fire personnel.

The fire marshal's notice of investigation issued Monday afternoon gives the preliminary cause as hot embers from the home's fireplace ignited nearby combustibles.

Damage is estimated at $20,000 to the structure and $10,000 to contents.

The home is owned by David Hansford, according to the state fire marshal's office. The home had working smoke detectors.
