Aberdeen Marriott evacuated, person taken to hospital after unknown chemical smell

The Courtyard at Marriott Hotel in Aberdeen was briefly evacuated and one person was taken to the hospital after an unknown odor that turned out to be pool chemicals was reported midday Sunday.

Hazmat crews responded to the hotel on Long Drive for a chemical odor at about 1 p.m., according to the Harford County Volunteer Fire & EMS page on Facebook.

The chemical was "believed to be located in [the] pool area [as a] result of mixing of chemicals," according to the page.

A hotel employee said at about 7 p.m. Sunday evening that everything was safe and the hotel cooperated with the fire department, but directed other questions to a supervisor, who was not immediately available.

One patient was taken to a hospital and three others were evaluated at the scene, according to the media page.
