A time to be heard

Editor:

After a full year of review and discussion, the 2012 Harford County Master Plan and Land Use Element Plan, Bill 12-01, is set for public hearing before the Harford County Council on Feb 7 (Tuesday). The details set forth in the plan for the Fallston area confirm that residents and local organizations can affect change in the area of future growth within their communities.

Throughout 2011, residents of the Fallston area expressed their ideas and concerns to the Greater Fallston Association (GFA) about future residential development, agricultural preservation, the Winters Run watershed area, revitalization of existing properties and the development envelope along Route 1. The GFA submitted these concerns to the appropriate agencies along with feasible action items now reflected in the 2012 plan.

Because of the actions taken by these Fallston residents and their effective communication with local government agencies, the protection of the rural characteristics of the Fallston area remains. I applaud the solutions to the concerns as reflected in the proposed Master Plan and want to thank the local government for responding to community input.

I encourage all Fallston residents to share their opinions about the plan at the public hearing on Feb. 7.

Community feedback really can make a difference!
