Editor:
Having recently become aware of Gov. Martin O'Malley's wish to get passed and into law a same sex marriage bill by the Maryland General Assembly in Annapolis has prompted me to write this.
This letter has two topics, which I wish to give a brief rant on.
The same sex marriage issue: Simply stated, marriage is supposed to be the joining of two people, a man and a woman, for the purpose, among other reasons, of creating the next generation of people. I realize that same sex couples can adopt and that would fulfill the "next generation" portion of my previous statement.
When the first couple was created, were they not a male and a female? Do you not think that pro-creation was figured into the whole design plan?
The Bible talks about this subject in Corinthians 6:9-10, where it reads: "Do you not know that the unjust will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators nor idolaters nor adulterers nor boy prostitutes nor sodomites nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God."
That pretty much says it for me.
The state's rights Issue: As with Arizona in the past, and here recently with Alabama, why is the federal government involved in taking these states into federal court over their individual immigration policies? Is it not a state's right to draft and enact immigration policies which work best for that particular state? Perhaps the current administration's policy concerning immigration into the states, or into the country as a whole is stated simply, Let 'em all in. Any rights or powers not granted to the states by the U.S. Constitution are then given the federal government. It therefore seems to me, that Washington is (or already has) become too big for its britches. That said, I am not willing to pay for a bigger pair. This country needs to close our borders (and secure them), withdraw all our funding for the United Nations (they have outlived their usefulness), begin to "clean up our own house."
Lastly, we need to bring back home our men and women in uniform, serving in countries that are not our own.
