Harford County is preparing to dole out $1.3 million to various departments for storm-related costs from last year's Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee, although it remains to be seen how much the county is reimbursed for storm damage.
Treasurer Kathryn Hewitt said the Federal Emergency Management Agency is expected to pay up to 75 percent of costs related to the damage.
Meanwhile, the Harford County Council introduced a bill earlier this month that would allocate $273,192 from the general fund, $847,269 from the highways fund and $159,175 from the water and sewer fund toward storm damages.
A public hearing on that bill is set for 6 p.m. March 6.
"A lot of that will be reimbursed," Hewitt said. "As far as I know, we haven't seen any reimbursement yet."
Nor did she know how long it might take to find out about reimbursement.
"The federal government is the federal government," she said, adding she does not expect the costs to affect the county significantly.
"This is part of the cost of doing business. We had to provide those services to citizens," she said.
