A Baltimore man is charged with first-degree assault after allegedly pulling out a knife in a fight on Dec. 30.
Francis Patrick Cunningham Jr., 50, of the 5100 block of Wright Avenue, is charged with using a dangerous weapon with intent to injure and first- and second-degree assault in connection with an incident in which he allegedly swung a knife at someone in a fight. He was released from the Harford County Detention Center Dec. 31 on $10,000 bail.
Deputies initially responded to the 4000 block of Conowingo Road in the Dublin area around 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 30. A resident told police he heard an argument outside of his house, according to charging documents. The resident then noticed Cunningham and asked him if he was OK when Cunningham, according to the resident, said "if it is not I will beat someone up."
The resident then said he would call the police, according to charging documents, when Cunningham allegedly said he would give the resident a reason to call the police. Cunningham then allegedly hit the resident twice on the side of the head and pulled a knife out of his back pocket and swung it at him.
The man avoided the knife and went inside to call police, according to charging documents, and also reported that he felt Cunningham was drunk at the time. When deputies spoke to Cunningham, he reported that he had been arguing with his girlfriend when the resident approached him and asked if he was causing problems, according to charging documents.
Cunningham said the resident lifted his fists as if to fight and started making comments about gang members so he swung at him, according to charging documents. When the resident said he was going to call police, Cunningham said he realized he had a knife in his possession and gave it to his friend.
