Nothing suspicious in Joppa fire, investigators say

Investigators believe the cause of a large house fire last week in Joppa was most likely accidental.

On Dec. 12, firefighters from companies in Baltimore and Harford counties responded to a fire in the 2400 block of Bluefield Circle in Joppa. The fire started in the garage and amounted to $1.5 million in losses for the family.

Deputy Chief Mark Bilger, of the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office, wrote in an e-mail Monday that although the incident is still under investigation, it was "most probable" that it was a result of an accidental event and nothing suspicious has been found.

The losses included $500,000 in structural damage to the house and $1 million in contents, primarily from the 13 vehicles stored on the property that were burned. No one was injured.
