The John Carroll Patriots suffered a season-ending loss Friday night at Meade High School in an MIAA B Conference semfinal. The third seed Patriots were handled by second seed Annapolis Area Christian School in a 41-6 loss. John Carroll was also beaten by AACS 56-18 in a regular season meeting in September.
In the first meeting, Eagles running back Josh McPhearson ran for 220 yards and five touchdowns. McPhearson ran for 100 yards and two scores in the latest win, but it was the Eagles' passing game that hurt the Eagles more.
AACS quarterback Chris Chick passed for 225 yards and four touchdowns to pace the winners.
Chick's first two touchdown passes were hauled in by Alpha Jalloh, covering 32 and 27 yards, respectively. Chick's biggest scoring pass covered 72 yards to Chandler Edmonds in the third quarter and he finished with a 31-yard strike to Gary Crull in the fourth.
McPhearson's scores came on runs of 12 and 22 yards, respectively.
Trailing 41-0, the Patriots posted their only points to avoid the shutout. Montell Martin scored on a 33-yard run, but almost fittingly, reliable kicker Alex Gambrell missed the extra point.
Martin finished with a game-best 129 yards rushing on 17 carries.
Defensively, Raphael Oduok led with seven tackles, while Martin and John Gallaraga had five tackles each. Denzel Varner had the Patriots' lone sack for a loss of 14 yards.
John Carroll finished the season at 6-4.
