Coming off their most successful stint of the season, during which they won six out of seven games, the IronBirds fell for the second straight night Friday, losing 7-3 to the visiting Williamsport Crosscutters.
With the defeat, Aberdeen fell to 19-35 on the year and was in the cellar of the New York-Penn Leagues McNamara Division, a full eight games behind third-place Hudson Valley.
Down 1-0 in the home half of the first, Aberdeen rang up one run to knot the contest 1-1. Glynn Davis led off the frame with a single to left, moved over to second base when the Crosscutters hurler uncorked a wild pitch, then scurried to third on Martin Serrata's sacrifice bunt. Mychal Givens came up third and hit a groundout to second that allowed Davis to score from third.
The IronBirds went up 2-1 in the second inning. Wynston Sawyer kicked off the rally with a leadoff walk, and after moving to third on a wild pitch and a passed ball, scored when Adam Davis drilled an RBI base hit to short center field.
Trailing 3-2 in the fourth after the visitors posted a pair of runs in the third, Aberdeen tied things up in short order. Adam Davis blasted a pitch over the left field wall for his first home run of the season.
The IronBirds failed to plate a run for the balance of the contest.
Aberdeen lost control of the game in the top of the seventh, while still tied up 3-3. In that inning, Williamsport pasted Aberdeen reliever Zach Petersime for four runs on five singles and a walk. Both teams went silent for the rest of the game.
Petersime (0-3) was saddled with the loss, going 1-1/3 innings in which he allowed five hits and did not record a strikeout.
Jose Mota made the start for Aberdeen and lasted four innings, striking out three and surrendering three earned runs on five hits without allowing a walk. Luis Lebron threw one inning of relief for the IronBirds, striking out two of the three hitters he faced in a perfect frame. Angel Cespedes finished out the game with a 2-2/3 inning stint, holding Williamsport to a pair of hits and posting two strikeouts.
Adam Davis was the lone IronBird with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with a homer, one run and two RBIs.
