IronBirds take second straight, top Vermont, 5-1, behind pitching, Yastrzemski

Aberdeen's pitching staff registered another fine showing on Wednesday night, as three IronBird hurlers combined to hold host Vermont to four hits and one run in a 5-1 victory.

Reliever Jimmy Yacabonis (1-0) picked up his first win of the season in high style, tossing two perfect innings, and striking out four of the six hitters he faced.

With the win, Aberdeen improved to 16-12 for the season.

Through Wednesday's game, the IronBirds still trailed first-place Hudson Valley (18-2) in the New York-Penn League's McNamara Division by a single game, with both teams even in the loss column. Staten Island is third place, one game in back of the IronBirds. Brooklyn is at the bottom of the division, 4.5 games out of first.
