Police release identity of Havre de Grace beating victim

The man who was found in Havre de Grace earlier this month with what police initially said were life-threatening head injuries has been identified by city police.

Dwayne Cecil Webb Sr., 43, of the 500 block of Pleasantwind Drive in Aberdeen, was found on Nov. 3, Havre de Grace Police Department spokesman Officer Jeff Gilpin said Thursday.

"It appears that the victim had gotten into an argument with unknown subjects. He was assaulted by unknown means that led to the injuries," Gilpin wrote in an e-mail. "Detectives are still actively investigating this case. As of this moment, no suspects have been charged or identified."

As of Monday morning, Webb remained in stable condition at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, Gilpin said.

Webb had injuries to his head when he was found, but there were no obvious signs of what caused the injuries, police had said earlier. They also initially said his wounds appeared to be life-threatening.

Webb was found on the ground in the 100 block of Deaver Street at about 8:20 p.m. Nov. 3 and was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview, where he was initially listed in critical condition. His condition was upgraded to stable the following morning.

The beating remains under investigation. Gilpin said no charges have been filed.
