The Maryland State High School Golf Tournament concluded Wednesday and Bel Air pulled out a sixth place team finish on the University of Maryland Golf Course.
The Bobcats foursome, Sam Foss, Matt Hottman, Nick Loiodice and Tyler Newton, shot a two day total of 661, well behind the winning score of 615 shot by team champion Urbana among Class 3A-4A schools.
Bel Air's District VII champion Hottman led the Bobcats in the final round, shooting 75, four strokes better the his day one round of 79. Hottman finished tied for 15th.
Foss had the biggest improvement, shooting 86 in the finals after opening with a 95. Loiodice shot 79 for the second straight round and Newton shot 88 on Wednesday to follow his opening round of 80.
C. Milton Wright also had two players in the final round, Shane Harper and Ricky Scheeler. Both opened Monday's play with rounds in the high 70's, but both fell back a bit in the final round. Scheeler carded a 77 to lead all Harford players Monday, but shot 86 on Wednesday. Harper opened with a 79, but also shot 86 in the finals.
In the 1A-2A field, Patterson Mill's Eric Langrehr was in action, qualifying with a opening round score of 86. Langrehr played a little better in the finals with a 83.
Fallston's Brittany Kemen, Harford's lone female player to reach the finals, shot 88 on Wednesday to improve her qualifying round of 92. Kemen placed 16th.
Tuesday's 1A-2A play
Harford County's Class 1A-2A golfers took their turn on the tees and greens at the University of Maryland Golf Course Tuesday, trying to qualify for Wednesday's final round of the 2011 Maryland State Golf Tournament.
In addition to Kemen and Langrehr, Harford Tech's Noah Davis just missed by a stroke, shooting 87, while Fallston's Max Bradley shot 91 and Patterson Mill's Mike Ryan shot 92.
