Cougars, Rams, Huskies pick up girls volleyball wins

The Fallston Cougars varsity girls volleyball team finally got in a match and picked up where they left off last year. The defending Maryland Class 2A state champions defeated visiting North East, 3-0, Tuesday night in an UCBAC match. The scores were 25-14, 25-11 and 25-20.

Leading the Cougars were Rachael Holehouse with 18 kills and Abby Claborn with 20 assists. Brittany Aquino had 19 points scored on her serve and Anna Holehouse contributed 12 digs.

Rams top Mariners

Edgewood was also a 3-0 winner Tuesday, sweeping neighbor and host Joppatowne. The winning scores were 25-16, 25-23 and 25-14.

Leading the Rams in victory were Lauren Brown, five aces; Alexis Goldston, six aces; and Krysten Turner, seven aces.

Hawks sweep Cobras

Visiting North Harford knocked off Harford Tech, 3-. The scores were 25-13, 25-5 and 25-18. Leading the Hawks were Julua Berg, six aces; Morgan Knox, three aces and three kills; and Kristen Eyler, two kills.

According to Tech coach Alison Leslie, Tech's notable player was captain Tori Lomonico, who had several serving streaks that carried momentum for the team.

Tigers tame Bobcats

Bel Air traveled to Rising Sun and lost in three games. The Tigers winning scores were 25-19, 25-9 and 25-11.

Bel Air's individual leaders were Amanda Rodriguez, seven assists; Tia Williams, six kills; Taylor Cole, two kills; and Kaila Gonzalez, two kills.

"Great back row defense by Kendall Daley," Bobcats coach Tim Markland said. "Rising Sun played great defensively and had consistent serving. Hats off to them on showing up and playing aggressively."

Huskies beat Warriors

Patterson Mill defeated visiting Havre de Grace, 3-0, Tuesday night. The scores were 25-20, 25-11 and 25-21.

Angela Zalesak had 30 assists and 10 aces, while Carlee Lund had six assists, five aces and 10 passes to setter.

Panthers beat Eagles

Host Perryville needed five games to get past Bo Manor in a 3-2 win. The scores were 25-15, 25-12, 25-27, 13-25 and 15-8.

Nori Elliott paced the Panthers with seven points in a row in both the first and second games. Elliott also had four aces, one kill and four assists.

Samantha Kreiner also had a big night serving, running off eight straight points in game one and finishing with 11 service points overall. Kreiner also had three aces, five kills and six digs.
