Girls volleyball: CMW, Fallston to play for UCBAC title Tuesday

Two division unbeatens will square off at Patterson Mill High School at 7 p.m. Tuesday night in the UCBAC girls volleyball championship.

C. Milton Wright, champions of the Susquehanna Division, and Fallston, Chesapeake champions and reigning UCBAC champs, both finished off perfect division schedules Thursday night to set up Tuesday's showdown.

C. Milton Wright ended its 14-0 division season with a 3-0 sweep of host Harford Tech. The winning scores were 25-18, 25-26 and 25-13.

The Mustangs (14-1 overall) were led by senior middle hitter Megan Badovinac, who had five aces, three digs and five kills. Also contributing to the victory was setter Alyssa Horton, with seven assists, two kills, five digs and one ace. Outside hitter Lena Sharesky chipped in four kills and three digs.

COUGARS perfect, too

Fallston closed out its 12-0 division record with a 3-0 win at Elkton, winning by scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-15.

Leading the Cougars (13-2 overall) attack was Rachael Holehouse with 14 kills and Emily Letke with seven. Abby Claborn had 18 assists and 13 points scored on her serve.

HAWKS need 5 to beat MARINERS

North Harford and visiting Joppatowne went to five games to settle their Susquehanna finale. The Hawks dropped the first game 19-25, but rallied to win games two and three, 25-13 and 25-20, respectively. Joppatowne (3-11, 3-12) won game four, 25-9, to force the deciding fifth game, which the Hawks won, 15-11.

North Harford (4-10, 4-10) had a handful of players contributing to the win. Britney Fleming had two aces and three kills, while Maggie Whittington had six aces and two kills. Emily Cunningham added three aces, four kills and one block and Julua Berg had two aces, three kills and four assists. Sam Pappas also added three aces, two kills and one block.

INDIANS scalp BOBCATS

Bel Air (7-5, 10-5) closed out its Chesapeake schedule with a 3-1 loss at North East. The Indians winning scores were 25-14, 25-20, 17-25, 25-18.

Among Bel Air's individual leaders, Amanda Rodriguez had 31 assists, three aces and a kill, while Alex Williams had 13 kills, three aces and 12 digs. Celeste Roland added 15 kills, one ace and 11 digs and Jackie Deluise had four kills and one block. Tia Williams had four kills and one block and Taylor Cole contributed two kills and one block.

Consuelo Ezcurra and Samantha Liberto provided outstanding defense, according to Bobcats head coach Tim Markland.

EAGLES upend PANTHERS

Aberdeen (7-7, 7-7) pulled its records to an even .500 with a 3-2 win over visiting Perryville (10-4, 10-5) in Susquehanna play. The Panthers won game one, 25-22, but Aberdeen pulled out game two, 25-14. Perryville won game three, 25-14, but Aberdeen battled back to take game four, 25-13, and then game five, 15-11.

Ange Thompson had 13 service points, one ace, five kills, one block, one dig, nine assists and two perfect passes and Nori Elliott added 23 service points, four aces, two kills, two digs, eight assists and one perfect pass to lead Perryville in the loss.

Region playoffs

The region playoffs draw will be played Monday with first round matches to be played Thursday and/or next Friday.
