Lack of players and lightning hamper lacrosse play

For the second straight week at Rockfield Park's Ewing Street Field, the Bel Air Women's Summer Lacrosse League was hampered Thursday by a lack of players and lightning.

Save the Ta-Ta's (Pink) (1-4-1) failed to field enough players in the night's first game, giving Little Miss Sunshine (5-1) a forfeit win, while in game two, lightning stopped the action between Blue Moon (2-2-1) and Black Magic (2-3) with more than nine minutes left in the first half, leaving it a non-completed game.

Despite the forfeit in the first game, the teams scrimmaged with a 7-7 tie result.

Gabby Spalt and Carina Sheehan scored two goals apiece to lead Miss Sunshine, while Brittney Gonzalez, Katie Owens and Julia Schrof each had single goals. Schrof also had the lone assist.

Brittany MacKnew made five saves for Miss Sunshine and sub goalie Alicia McCarty had nine saves for Pink.

In the game halted by lightning, Blue Moon had jumped to a early 4-1 lead before play was halted. Gabby Antinozzi scored three times and Fran Paradise once for Blue and Nicole Oakley scored with assist from Emily Tyler for Black.

Erin Dent had made three saves for Blue and Heather Dove had two saves for Black before the game was stopped. If time allows later in the season, this game may be replayed.
