CMW edges Bel Air
Thursday night's Class 3A North regional semifinal showdown Thursday night between the second-seeded host C. Milton Wright and the third-seeded Bel Air girls soccer squads saw the Mustangs overcome an early two-goal deficit on their way to a 4-3 victory over the visiting Bobcats (11-3-1).
With the victory, CMW (13-4) earned a spot at Tuesday's 3A North title match, in which they will host with either ninth seed Franklin or fourth seed Eastern Tech at 6 p.m.
The Mustangs found themselves down 2-0 in short order Thursday, as Bobcats Sarah McKinney and Jess Christakis both sent shots into the CMW net within five minutes of the opening whistle.
But Megan Frailer scored for the Mustangs, cutting the CMW deficit down to one goal heading into the half-time break.
In the second half, Bel Air again went up by two goals when Teresa Berg tucked away a shot.
Down 3-1, the Mustangs responded with three unanswered tallies, the first of which came off the foot of Alyssa Austen. Sarah Piazza scored the game-tying goal.
The game-winner was scored by Frailer, who smacked a 25-yard missile into the upper corner of Bel Air's goal.
Mackenzie Cunningham and Austen each dished out one assist for the Mustangs.
In goal for CMW, Stacy Venanzi came through with six saves.
Bel Air goalkeeper Emily Rosenberger registered four saves.
