The C. Milton Wright Mustangs captured their sixth Chesapeake (upper) Division girls soccer title on Thursday with a 2-0, home-field win over the Bel Air Bobcats.
The game was a scoreless tie at the half-time break.
Ten minutes into the second half, CMW's Sarah Piazza scored off an assist from Angela Kuhn to give the Mustangs a 1-0 cushion.
Megan Frailer gave CMW a two-goal advantage 10 minutes later, knocking in a shot after collecting a pass from Piazza.
In goal for the Mustangs, Stacy Venanzi had three saves. Bel Air goalkeeper Emily Rosenberger had nine saves in the loss.
Thursday's victory earned CMW a shot in the UCBAC final, where they were to play the Susquehanna (lower) Division champ Rising Sun on Tuesday.
Playing at home on Monday night, the Mustangs were topped, 4-2, by the Mercy squad. Piazza and Frailer scored one goal each in the loss, while Kuhn supplied the Mustangs their lone assist. Mercy led 3-0 at half-time.
Tech tops North East
Harford Tech earned a girls soccer victory Monday, dropping the visiting North East Indians, 5-0.
At half-time, the Cobras were leading 2-0. Becca Williams scored once and dished out one assist in the win, while teammates Jamie Hoban, Cierra Singleton, Kersten O'Brien and Katrina Yaroshevich each scored a goal for the Cobras. Dana Waskiewicz, Megan Doleschal, Sarah North and Nicole Williams each registered an assist.
Rams split pair
Playing on the road against Howard County's Hammond Monday, the Edgewood Rams lost, 1-0. Edgewood goalkeeper Nasia Denegal posted 13 saves in the loss.
In their Thursday road contest with Havre de Grace, the Rams topped the host Warriors, 6-0.
Natalee Olah and La'Dae Boykin each scored two goals to lead the winning side, while Morgan Kaseman and Alyssa Rankin scored one goal apiece. Kaseman led the Rams in assists with three. At the half-time break, Edgewood led, 2-0.
Hawks over Wilde Lake
The North Harford girls won going away Friday, beating Wilde Lake, 2-0.
Following a scoreless first half, Sam Verzi broke the tie 10 minutes into the second, knocking in a left-footed shot from 15 yards after taking a pass from teammate Madison Ferrara. Thirteen minutes after Verzi's goal, the Hawks struck again, as Alicia Greene headed Ferrara's cross into the Wilde Lake net to put North Harford up 2-0. Emily Briggs came up with eight saves in the North Harford goal.
Huskies take two
The Patterson Mill Huskies knocked off visiting Kenwood, 2-0, Monday night.
Both of the Huskies' goals came in the first half. Kelly Dyke and Gabby Samra each found the Kenwood net once, while Amy Bednarek dished out on assist.
On Thursday, the Huskies won going away, dispatching Aberdeen, 5-0.
Leading the way for the Huskies was Lauren Dick, who netted a pair of goals. Dyke, Sammi Galbraith and Danni Corrado each scored once. Samra and Ramona Scheuler each posted one assist.
Pats win final league game
Playing in their final IAAM-A Conference contest of the season Friday, John Carroll beat home standing Maryvale Prep, 4-0.
Leah Pace led the Patriots, scoring a pair of goals, while Jordan Clarke and Sophi Centi each scored once in the victory. Nicole Wojcik handed out a pair of assists for John Carroll, while Olivia DiFonso was credited with one assist. John Carroll goalie Gina Maiorana had four saves.
