The Joppatowne Mariners took a short road trip Wednesday evening for their first game of the season and beat Edgewood, 55-42, in girls basketball. Patterson Mill also won Wednesday. Fallston won twice this week and Aberdeen and Harford Tech also won in other girls basketball action.
Joppatowne led by four after one quarter and pushed the lead to seven, 28-21, at the half. A 15-10 third quarter allowed the Mariners to push the lead to double digits.
Lakiah Huff pumped in 15 points to lead the winners. Shakara Head added 14.
Shania Stamper led Edgewood (0-2) with 15 points. Jada Hatcher added seven points and eight rebounds.
PATTERSON MILL beats BEL AIR
Patterson Mill evened its record at 1-1 Wednesday evening, turning back host Bel Air, 68-44.
Morgan Golec and Qalea Ismail scored 16 points each to lead the Huskies. Sam Herman scored 14 and Elizabeth Wilson had 13.
Jasmine Mutunga led Bel Air with 13 points and Kate Chizmar pulled down eight rebounds. The loss also left Bel Air with a 1-1 record.
FALLSTON beats C. MILTON WRIGHT
The Fallston Cougars made it two wins in two nights, beating visiting C. Milton Wright, 44-28, in non-league girls basketball action Tuesday.
Alyssa March led the Cougars (2-0) with 14 points. Emily Nosek and Jayme Harmon each scored eight points. Rachael Holehouse was held to seven, leaving her nine points shy of 1,000 for her career. The Cougars will be back in action Saturday at the Beast of the East Showcase at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore.
Abby Smucker led the Mustangs (0-1) with seven points and Heather McKee had six. Fallston led at the half, 23-12.
ABERDEEN beats Meade
Aberdeen went on the road Tuesday night and came home with a 70-53 win over Meade.
Junior center Brionna Jones led the way with 31 points and nine rebounds. Takiara Fowlkes added 13 points and eight boards and Jimmia McCluskey had seven points. Nia Alleyne also had nine rebounds.
Imani Bailey paced Meade with 23 points.
HARFORD TECH beats HAVRE DE GRACE
Harford Tech opened its season Tuesday night, beating visiting Havre de Grace, 56-31. The Cobras led at the half, 31-15. The game was played in Tech's old gym after a leak was discovered in the main gym.
Gabby Spalt scored 16 points to lead the winners. Brittany Chavis added 12 points and Emily Edmunds finished with nine for Tech.
Havre de Grace was led by Jade McDonnell's nine points. Katie Bubb added eight points and six rebounds.
