The night Miranda Ripken scored the 1,000th point of her career, the 12th-ranked John Carroll Patriots ran their record to 13-3 with their 11th straight win Wednesday night, beating host Institute of Notre Dame, 60-36. The Patriots have a perfect 8-0 record in IAAM B Conference play.
Ripken scored her 1,000th point on a pair of fourth quarter free throws. Ripken, a senior captain, needed 15 points to reach the prestigious mark and got just that to lead all scorers. Emily Soller added 13 points and Yemaya Johnson added 10 for the Patriots.
When asked about the feat Ripken said, "I have to admit I was nervous, but now I feel relief that it is over. I am glad it is behind me now."
Mariners beat Cougars
Two of Harford County's best girls basketball teams over the past few years, Joppatowne and Fallston, met on the hardwood in Fallston Tuesday night with a common goal: stay in contention with Aberdeen for the UCBAC Chesapeake Division title.
When play was finished it was the visiting Mariners who picked up the win, running away from the Cougars for a 61-34 win. The Mariners led by just four at the half, 24-20, but blew the game open behind a 25-6 third quarter advantage.
Shakara Head led the Mariners (5-1, 11-2) with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while LaKiah Huff netted 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds. TroiQuay Malloy and Cierra Tourville each added nine points and Te'jha Patton-Hill scored eight. Malloy also had 11 assists.
Rachael Holehouse tallied 17 points to lead Fallston (4-2, 8-4), while Devin Brady added eight points.
Mustangs beat Rams
C. Milton Wright (7-0, 10-3) continued its unbeaten ways in Susquehanna action Tuesday night, beating visiting Edgewood (4-3, 6-7), 63-41.
Allie Appleby continued her recent scoring binge with a game-high 21 points, while Colleen Houck and Jessica Canami scored 12 points each. Alexis Cuffe pulled down seven rebounds for the Mustangs.
Huskies beat Panthers
Patterson Mill (6-1, 7-5) rebounded from last week's tough loss at CMW to rout visiting Perryville, 86-34, Tuesday night in Susquehanna action. Morgan Golec pumped in a season-best 32 points and Qalea Ismail added 22 points.
Hawks beat Elks
North Harford traveled to Cecil County Tuesday night and defeated host Elkton, 63-48, in Chesapeake play.
Sarah Heaps scored a team-high 20 points to inch closer to 1,000 career points. Heaps needs five points for the 1,000 mark. North Harford (3-3, 10-4) will play at Bel Air Thursday at 6:45 p.m., when it's likely Heaps will reach the milestone.
Madison Ferrara added 19 points and Morgan Knox scored 14 to aid in the Hawks winning efforts.
Eagles beat Cobras
Aberdeen stayed perfect (7-0, 11-0) on the season Tuesday evening with a 65-27 win over host Harford Tech (0-6, 3-8) in Chesapeake play.
Emily Edmunds scored 10 points and Britany Chavis added nine points and eight rebounds for the Cobras. No stats were available for the unbeaten Eagles.
Indians beat Warriors
North East knocked off visiting Havre de Grace, 45-29, Tuesday night in Susquehanna play. Samara White scored 16 points to pace the Warriors (2-5, 2-9).
