Taking a break from the rigors of the UCBAC schedule, Joppatowne got back on the winning track Wednesday night with a 71-35 win at Carver Vo-Tech. That came a night after Aberdeen's big win over Fallston in a battle of unbeatens in girls basketball.
The Mariners (13-1 overall) led, 27-13, after one quarter and rolled from there behind the 29-point, 10-rebound performance from senior forward Shakara Head.
Senior LaKiah Huff added 19 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, while Te'jha Patton-Hill finished with 13 points. Point guard TroiQuay Malloy dished out 11 assists.
Aberdeen rolls over Fallston
Playing for the first time since its big win last week, the Aberdeen girls basketball team continued its winning roll Tuesday night on the road at Fallston in an UCBAC Chesapeake Division matchup between league unbeatens.
The Eagles put four players in double figures in the scoring column and came away with a 76-44 win. The Eagles led, 42-30, at the half.
Bri Jones pumped in a game-high 24 points to pace the Eagles (5-0 league, 12-0 overall). Lakeia Hayden added 14 points. Freshman Kierra Palmer scored 11 points and Nia Alleyne finished with 10.
Rachael Holehouse and Devin Brady scored 10 points each to lead the Cougars (4-1, 10-3). Alyssa March added eight points in the loss.
Warriors beat Panthers
Havre de Grace earned its second win of the season Wednesday night, beating visiting and neighboring rival Perryville, 42-38, in UCBAC Susquehanna Division play.
The Warriors led by a point after the first quarter (14-13) and at the half (22-21), before opening up their biggest lead of the season in the third quarter (31-21).
A 9-0 scoring run gave the Warriors the 10-point lead, which shrunk to nine (33-24) after three quarters.
The Panthers closed the gap to four late in the fourth quarter, but Havre de Grace, behind a aggressive zone defense, held on for the win.
Freshmen Samara White and Taylor Smith scored 12 points each to pace the Warriors (2-3, 2-9). Gabby Joyner added six points and Ardesia White scored five.
Whitney Hynson scored 22 points to led Perryville (1-3, 4-5).
Rams drop Cobras
In a non-league contest in Edgewood, the host Rams broke open a close game with a 16-4 second quarter advantage en route to a 64-37 win over Harford Tech.
Edgewood led 16-12 through one quarter, but blew up the lead to 32-16 at the half.
The Rams (6-8) were led by a pair of sophomores: Jada Hatcher had the double-double of 25 points and 12 rebounds, while Shania Stamper also scored 25 points.
Britany Chavis led Tech (3-7) with 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Emily Edmunds added eight points.
Hawks top St. Paul's
North Harford also took a break from the league schedule to host and beat St. Paul's 52-40 Tuesday night. Morgan Knox led the Hawks with 22 points and Sarah Heaps scored 20. The Hawks improved to 9-5.
Patriots beat St. Paul's
In a battle for IAAM B Conference supremacy the John Carroll Patriots rolled over the visiting St. Paul's Gators 43-24 last Friday.
Miranda Ripken inched closer to her 1,000th point leading the way with 16 while Yemaya Johnson added 10 points for the winners. Ripken needs 23 points to pass the millennial mark for her career with nine games remaining in the regular season. John Carroll is 11-3 overall and 6-0 in conference.
