Getting in a final tune-up before Thursday's girls basketball showdown with Aberdeen, the Joppatowne Mariners knocked off visiting North Harford, 84-68, Tuesday night in an UCBAC Chesapeake Division game.
The Mariners (4-0 league, 13-1 overall) led 23-13 after one quarter and 44-29 at the half. The Hawks (1-2, 9-5) outscored the Mariners 17-16 in the third quarter, but the Mariners blew the game wide open with a 24-point fourth quarter.
Shakara Head led the Mariners with a double-double of 27 points and 12 rebounds. Te'jha Patton-Hill added 22 points, including making three of six 3-point shots. TroiQuay Malloy added 16 points, eight assists and five steals.
North Harford's Sarah Heaps led all scorers with 32 points.
Joppatowne will visit Aberdeen (3-0, 13-0) Thursday at 6:45 p.m.
Cougars beat Bobcats
Fallston put three players in double figures to post a 46-39 Chesapeake win over host Bel Air.
Senior guard Emily Nosek led the Cougars (3-0 league, 10-3 overall) with 13 points, while Rachael Holehouse and Alyssa March each scored 12 points.
Connor Hanley paced Bel Air (0-4, 1-14) with 11 points and Jasmine Mutunga added 10. The Cougars led at the half 28-21.
Warriors get first win
Havre de Grace snapped its 10-game winless streak Tuesday night in Chesapeake City, beating Bo Manor, 33-27, in a come-from-behind Susquehanna Division effort.
The Warriors (1-2 league, 1-10 overall) trailed 18-17 at the half and then by three late in the third quarter. A 7-0 run by the Warriors boosted them ahead and they held on for the win. Ardesia White led the Warriors with seven points. Katie Bubb, Addie Richardson and Samara White each scored six points.
Mustangs beat Indians
Visiting C. Milton Wright (4-0, 11-4) stayed atop the Susquehanna standings with a 63-35 win at North East. Jessica Canami led three Mustangs in double figures with 11 points, while Brittany Haber and Allie Appleby netted 10 points each.
Alexis Cuffe and Abby Smucker each grabbed five rebounds.
Huskies beat Tigers
Patterson Mill joined CMW atop the Susquehanna standings by beating host Rising Sun, 48-21.
Morgan Golec's 16 points paced the Huskies (4-0, 10-4), while Qalea Ismail finished with nine points.
Rams beat Panthers
Edgewood (2-2, 5-9) picked up a Susquehanna victory Tuesday over host Perryville, 65-29, after leading 40-17 at the half.
Jada Hatcher had 14 points, nine rebounds and five steals, while Shania Stamper had 11 points and five steals. Jakia Robinson scored nine points and nine steals.
Patriots beat Park
The John Carroll Patriots girl's won their eighth straight game Wednesday night, 72-16, over IAAM B Conference rival Park. Miranda Ripken had 15 of her game high 19 points in the first quarter as she inches closer to 1,000 for her career. After Wednesday's game, she stood at 961.
With a 27-0 first period, the Patriots overwhelmed an injured and beleagured Bruin team that lost its top two scorers.
In recent games, John Carroll has let opponents up off the canvas after taking commanding leads, but not this time. The Patriots continued their dominance, leading 40-4 at the half. In the second half it was more of the same as John Carroll cruised to the 56-point win. Rita Watson added 11 points for John Carroll as all 11 players scored.
HCS loses at home
Harford Christian suffered another loss, falling 46-28 to visiting St. Timothy's. Cady Farrish had seven points and five rebounds in the loss.
