Girls basketball: Aberdeen powers past North Harford in battle of UCBAC unbeatens

ABERDEEN - — In a girls basketball matchup between two early season conference unbeatens, host Aberdeen knocked off North Harford 90-57 in UCBAC Chesapeake action Thursday night.

On Monday, the Eagles took a break from the league schedule to post a 107-7 victory over visiting Patapsco. No further details were made available.

In Thursday's game, the Eagles constant pressure led to numerous early Hawks turnovers, propelling Aberdeen to a 24-5 first quarter lead.

Both teams hit their scoring strides in quarter number two, but a seven-point advantage allowed the Eagles to double the score at the half, 52-26.

Aberdeen posted 21 points in third quarter, before emptying the bench in the final quarter en route to the 33-point win.

Nia Alleyne led four Eagles (3-0 league, 9-0 overall) in double figures in a balanced scoring attack. Alleyne pumped in a game-high 23 points, while Bri Jones finished with 20. Jimmia McCluskey scored 15, and Lakeia Hayden added 12, on four three-point baskets.

TK Fowlkes chipped in eight points, and freshman Kierra Palmer netted seven points, while dishing out eight nice assists. Jones completed a double-double with 13 rebounds.

North Harford (1-1, 7-3) also had three players reach double figures, led by Kristen Eyler, who came off the bench to score 17 points. Morgan Knox and Sarah Heaps each scored 14 points, and Madison Ferrara scored six.

Head scores 1,000th in Mariners win

Joppatowne senior Shakara Head pumped in 32 points Thursday, including the 1,000th of her career, to lead the Mariners (3-0, 10-1) past host Bel Air, 72-52, in Chesapeake Division play.

The Mariners led 34-28 at the half.

LaKiah Huff added 16 points, five assists and five rebounds, while TroiQuay Malloy had eight points and seven assists. Felicia Okoye finished with eight points.

The loss was the 10th straight for the Bobcats (0-3, 1-10).

Bel Air's Jasmine Mutunga scored 17 points in the loss and Caela Tindilia netted 11.

Mariners beat Mustangs

Joppatowne also won Monday in a make-up game, beating visiting C. Milton Wright, 76-46.

Huff poured in 29 points, while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out three assists. Head added 11 points and four boards, while Cierra Tourville also had 11 points and Te'jha Patton Hill added 10 points.

Abby Smucker scored 11 points to lead the Mustangs.

Cougars beat Golden Elks

Fallston picked up another Chesapeake Division win Thursday, beating visiting Elkton, 48-37.

The Cougars (2-0, 7-3) led 27-12 at the half.

Rachael Holehouse scored 18 points to lead the Cougars. Alyssa March added 13.

HCS loses again

Harford Christian lost its third game of the season Thursday, falling 51-27 to visiting Mt. Airy Christian in a MACSAC contest in Dublin.

Two 19-point quarters by the visitors sent the Eagles to the half down 38-11.

Leah Edwards led the Eagles with nine points, four steals and three assists. Cady Farrish added eight points and five rebounds, as the Eagles fell to 4-3 on the season.

Mustangs beat Warriors

C Milton Wright rolled into Havre de Grace and rolled out with a dominant 71-23 win in Susquehanna Division play.

Abby Smucker and Lauren Haggerty scored 15 points each to pace the Mustangs (3-0, 7-3). Savannah Humpreys yanked down nine rebounds, and teammate Bridget Neff added eight rebounds.

The Warriors fell to 0-2 and 0-8.

Huskies defeat Rams

In another Susquehanna Division contest Thursday night, Patterson Mill dispatched host Edgewood 65-26.

The Huskies (3-0, 6-3) led 27-9 at the half.

Qalea Ismail led the Huskies with 23 points and Morgan Golec finished with 15 points.

Edgewood (1-2, 3-7) was paced by Shania Stamper's 20-point effort.

HCS wins twice

Harford Christian picked up two wins on back-to-back days over the weekend. On Friday night, the Eagles defeated host Redeemer Classical Christian, 51-36. Junior center Kollen Watkins led with 11 points and eight rebounds. Chloe Akers added 10 points and four assists.

On Saturday, the Eagles traveled to Frederick to play New Life Christian in its homecoming game. HCS won 50-34. The Eagles were led by the excellent defense and all around play of junior guard Leah Edwards, who finished with 11 points, six steals and four assists. Center Cady Farrish had 14 points and nine rebounds, sophomore guard Akers had nine points and senior guard Sara Karschner had seven points.
