Girls basketball: Joppatowne rebounds in rout of Harford Tech

The Joppatowne Mariners bounced back from their holiday tournament loss with a lopsided, 60-19, win over Harford Tech Tuesday night in UCBAC Chesapeake Division girls basketball play.

The Mariners (2-0 league, 9-1 overall) led 26-4 after one quarter and blew the lead out to 43-6 by the half.

Shakara Head led the Mariners with 22 points and seven rebounds. LaKiah Huff added 16 points, two rebounds and two assists, while TroiQuay Malloy dished out seven assists.

Tech fell to 0-2 in the league and 3-3 overall.

Bobcats lose ninth straight

Bel Air (0-2, 1-9) dropped its ninth straight game Tuesday night, losing 50-43 to visiting MATHS Charter School in a non-league clash. The Bobcats trailed at the half, 29-15.

Bobcat senior guard Jasmine Mutunga led all scorers with 16 points.

HCS slips to 4-2

Harford Christian slipped to 4-2 overall after a 49-31 non-conference loss to visiting Covenant Life of Gaithersburg. Covenant Life is a 10-1 team that was the top girls team in the Christian state tournament last season.

HCS trailed by 13 at the half, but cut the deficit to nine by the end of the third quarter. A 12-3 fourth quarter, however, sent the Eagles to defeat.
