A woman flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center Thursday night following a single vehicle accident in Fallston has been identified as 71-year-old Betty Lee Constantine of Bel Air.

A Maryland State Police Medevac was called in twice Thursday evening for two separate accidents in Harford County, one in Fallston and one in Belcamp.

At about 6:44 p.m. Thursday, the Fallston Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Company responded to Carrs Mill Road and Ryan Road for a report of a vehicle accident, according to a news release from Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association. Constantine had to be extricated from her vehicle, which appeared to have overturned several times.

Constantine was traveling on Carrs Mill Road when she fell asleep, according to Harford County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Monica Worrell.

The vehicle crossed into the southbound lane before striking a utility pole, which caused it to break and "came to rest" on the vehicle, Worrell said Monday. This caused electric and communication lines to fall on it, according to the release. The woman was transported to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment.

As of 11 p.m. Friday, Constantine was in stable condition at the hospital.

The accident is still under investigation by the Harford County Sheriff's Office. Carrs Mill Road between Vale Road and Ryan Road was expected to be closed while crews repaired the power lines, according to the release.

Another call for a Medevac came in around 9:20 p.m. Thursday to the Abingdon Volunteer Fire Company for a report of a pedestrian hit at Philadelphia Road and Bristol Forest Drive in Belcamp, according to another release from the association.

Glen Arthur Welsh, 46, of the 3800 block of Copper Beech Drive in Abingdon, was struck by the mirror on a passing International box truck, according to Maryland State Police who responded to the scene.

Welsh was walking along Route 7, when he was hit by the passenger side mirror of the box truck, which was headed west on Route 7, according to a Maryland State Police news release.

Randolph Lee Smith, 53, of Essex, was driving the truck and swerved to the left in an attempt to avoid hitting Welsh, the state police news release said, adding that it appears Welsh was walking in the travel portion of the roadway.

No further information was available.
