Person flown to trauma center after injury at Harford soccer tournament

A person was flown to a regional trauma center by a medevac helicopter following an athletic-related injury at Cedar Lane Regional Park in Creswell Saturday afternoon.

Dave Williams, spokesperson for the Harford County Fire and Ambulance Association, said the call for a medical emergency involved a sports-related injury. He did not have further details.

The initial emergency radio call for "a traumatic injury" at the park in the 1100 block of Cedar Lane was broadcast at 3:36 p.m. Saturday. The call for the state police helicopter went out a short time later, and the medevac arrived around 4:15.

Radio transmissions discussed the possibility of transporting to Johns Hopkins Pediatric Center or the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, but Williams said he did not know to what hospital the patient was taken.

According to the Cedar Lane Park website, the park was hosting a soccer tournament, called the Susquehanna Cup, that began Friday and ran through Monday,Labor Day.

The tournament's website says the event was open to boys and girls teams from U8 to U15.

The park hosts a variety of regional athletic events, particularly for soccer, lacrosse, field hockey and baseball.
