Fire damages Jarrettsville home

A fire in a Jarrettsville home Friday caused more than half a million dollars in damage.

Around 1:42 a.m. Friday, firefighters rushed to a two-story house in the 3900 block of Norrisville Road in Jarrettsville after a passerby noticed the house was on fire, according to deputy state fire marshals.

About 60 firefighters from Jarrettsville, Bel Air, Norrisville, Whiteford, Level and Fallston volunteer fire companies as well as Baltimore County and York County, Pa., firefighters battled the blaze for about two hours before getting the fire under control, according to fire officials.

The fire went to three alarms.

The blaze caused about $500,000 damage to the 5,300-square-foot house, owned by Steven Helewicz, and about $100,000 to what was inside.

The fire started inside the attic and the preliminary cause is under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bel Air office of the state fire marshal, 410-836-4844.
